Onigoroshi - the hunt of demons.
For hundreds of years, there existed a phenomenon called the Shaman Fight. Occuring once every 500 years (or every half of a millenium), the Shaman Fight is a battle tournament held specially for beings known as Shamans. These Shamans are special humans gifted with the ability to not only see and speak with spirits and ghosts; but also the power to wield their abilities in battle. With such powerful abilities, they are exactly the reason why the world needs a great, spiritual leader to guide it to a pathway of peace - from behind the shadows. This is why the Shaman Fight exists... for the winner who emerges victorious from the tournament's many and lengthly trials, will become the Shaman King. For the Shaman King will guide the Earth who has strayed off its course in the last century, and guide it back using the Great Spirit.
It's now year 2009 A.D. The last Shaman King Tournament was held in the year of 1510. Now, 449 years have passed. Once this winter is over and becomes year 2010 A.D., it will be the commencement of a new Shaman Fight. The location has been settled; many Shamans have been preparing for this very event, possibly from the very beginning of their lives. And some, are desperate to win, no matter what. The fight of their lives - and their shaking, trembling souls - has not yet begun, but the very Earth is responding. Waiting. Waiting for its next Saviour.
The location for the Preliminary Rounds have been decided. They will take place in two locations in Japan: Aomori, a cold, northern city that borders the most northern boundaries before Hokkaido; and Izumo, a shoreline town that's famous for its many lurking spirits. Ten governing officials from the foundation of the Shaman Fight has already arrived in Japan to prepare the judging of the contestants. Hailing from Patch Village, an illusionary village that changes its locations with every Shaman King Tournament, these officials are known as the Patch Priests and will become the legitimate overseers of the Shaman Fight. Now, with so much spiritual activity bustling around, it's not a surprise that the dead are restless; and so are the living.
Being Shaman King won't be easy. To be able to achieve and wield the power that transcends even the heavens - who will emerge victorious from this battle?
